Prelude

A light burns tremulous and low,
     In every human soul,
Which, tended carefully, will grow
     A lament aureole ;

A rosy nimbus that will shine
     On visions fair to view,
And make the commonplace Divine,
     The old world into new.

We each have felt that inward glow,
     Have seen those visions fair,
Floating above the sordid show
     That earthbound spirits share.

So while the Vision's yet in sight,
     And ere our day is gone,
We sing according to our light,
     And pass the message on.
