The Park

Bordered by a town's red brick history
Encapsulating nature's manifold mystery,
Lies a wonderful wide open space.
Where people escape from life’s fast pace
To witness the season's changing scene
From golden brown to verdant green.
As a Brass Band echoes tradition in the breeze
By a lake where swans glide with ease.

On aged park benches occupants contemplate
For the past and present seems to resonate
In a dog's bounding joy or a child’s happy cry
Catching the wind to mask a lover's whispered sigh
As people ambling tread the paths of the past
In and out of dancing shadows by tall trees cast.

Here in towering trees the bird’s chorus sing
Of lazy summer Sundays as the church bells ring.
Whilst tennis balls whizz to and fro in frenetic attack
And bowls are rolled aiming to gently kiss the jack.
Oh happy the town, however grim and stark,
Despite its travails boasts an Arboretum park.
