Happy Though Married

When married life, I first began,
I lived for self, for Number One ;
This left my lassie nought to do
But grind and screw for number two.

Now this caused many a fret and frown,
And everything seemed upside-down ;
So we resolved to be more sane,
And started courting once again.

And now I scheme from morn till night
To make my lass's labour light ;
And she looks after me ; you see,
I live for her, she lives for me.

There's now no need to frown and fret,
For though we're grey we're courting yet ;
We're both as happy as can be :
I'd die for her, she'd die for me.
