Could Art exist without Poetry and still call itself Art? Poetry has its place and more, for where on earth will you find a community untouched by Poetry?
Walsall and Poetry are no strangers to one another. The relationship between the region and the art form is well established. Through this publication it is clear to see that the region's Poets have, over the years, seen absolutely fit to do their utmost to maintain this wonderful relationship and in doing so preserve this invaluable Walsall legacy.
100 Walsall Poems brings together a collection of poetry that is like no other. It includes poems written both in the modern era and over past centuries, and by a diverse range of both published and previously unpublished writers and poets.
This proud collection includes many of the poems published by T.Fisher Unwin Ltd, 'Songs From The Heart of England' in 1920. In the anthology Arthur Brockhurst one of the key figures responsible for the publication wrote concerning the publication and accordingly his and his colleagues' desires that;
"If, as a result, a wider interest is taken in poetry, and if the next generation should be encouraged to publish a second anthology, and if this reaches a higher level than the first, our work will not have been in vain."
We hope that this online publication goes some way towards fulfilling those aspirations and we pay tribute to our past and present Walsillian poets without whom this priceless online publication could not exist.
