Take Me To Walsall
By Femi Abidogun

Take me to Walsall
for I liked what I saw
when last fall
I visited and got enthralled.
In Walsall
I loved it all;
the friendliness of her warm folks
and her many places of interests to behold:
The Memorial Gardens which unfolds
to the little ones and the old
the very many sacrifices of fallen heroes untold.
The Saddlers Centre and the Old Square Shopping Centre
no places better
to prove that the same are all we lot
in that insatiable quest to shop
till the very last coin is dropped.
The Barr Beacon,
too beckons,
as such I must respond to that fascinating appeal
to go back and venerate the richness of nature,
just like the Arboretum
where I'll do same and also have a bit of fun.
The museums, not forgetting the New Art Gallery-
all awesome locations
to have the mind and eyes feast, without hesitation,
on the proud works and outcomes
of an eclectic blend of sweat, creativity and the unquantifiable brilliance of generations
often gone unsung with little or no appreciation.
It's hard not to recall
the infectious enthusiasm,
the zeal and passion
of fans relentlessly cheering the Saddlers-
despite all odds, to them, to stop believing is never
an option to consider.
I have missed all of these-
all these and more I need to quickly see
so take me there, please,
once and for all
for I so loved what I saw
when last fall
I fell for Walsall.

A BLACK COUNTRY WENCH
By Marianne Burgess

I doe like walkin on the beach
I much prefer the cut
Strollin' past graffitied walls
With me mon and me mutt.

I doe like fancy restaurants
But I ay ard to please
Just tek me to a greasy spoon
That gives out 'art disease!

'Cos I'm a Black Country Wench
Through an' through
This is weer I belong;
So if yow am from the Black Country -
Then yow'll know that I ay wrong!

I doe drink bottled spring waerter
I drink council pop
And I like a pint o' Bonks's
With a frothy yed on top.

I doe buy packs o' sweeties
I buy a bag o' suck;
'An if yow dare to dis the way I spake -
Yow've really pushed yer luck!

'Cos I'm a Black Country Wench
Through an' through
This is weer I belong;
So if yow am from the Black Country -
Then yow'll know that I ay wrong!

Yow like to tek the quickest route
I goo all round the wrekin;
Yow talk the Queens' English
An' doe get a word I'm spakin'.

Yow am chalk an' I am cheese
But yow'm the faggots to me peas -
I'm askin' yow on bended knees;
Cor yow just tek me back 'ome please?!

'Cos I'm a Black Country wench
Through an' through -
This is weer I belong;
So i'm movin' back to my 'ome town -
An' I doe think that it's wrong!

Leap of Faith
By James Josiah

But,
what if
this all ends
not with a cry
but with a whisper?
What if the love just goes?
If we wake up as strangers,
together but somehow alone.
Is it really a risk worth taking?
I hold her hand and tell her yes, always.
